Cruinniú na nÓg 2023 | TY Festival

Are you in Transition Year? Are you into art and art-making?

About the TY Festival

The Douglas Hyde, in collaboration with students from our TY Work Experience Project, is delighted to present our second TY Festival to coincide with Cruinniú na nÓg 2023.

TY Festival is a day-long programme for transition year students and home-educated students from across the country (aged 15 to 18) to learn, play and explore their creativity through art-making labs.

About the Labs

We will be offering two different art-making labs throughout the day. Both labs were designed and developed by students from our TY Work Experience Project and will give the participants the opportunity to engage in creative thinking through animation, sound and music.

Daranijoh Sanni
Sonic Lab

In this lab, participants will experience sound in its different forms and reflect on the emotional responses that sound provokes. Daranijoh Sunni (E the Artist) will create and isolate different sounds and vibrations for participants to experience – and then ask them to think about and discuss the feelings, emotions, and responses they have to […]

Sophie Béhal
Animation Lab

Participants in this interactive Animation Lab will use their imaginations to discuss and visually explore the nature of memory. The lab will consider questions like: What is memory? How does memory change over time? What about memory is special? Participants will create their own creative responses to these ideas through animation.  Explore animation and Memory […]

Participation Requirements

As these labs will be delivered at The Douglas Hyde, you will need to be able to travel into Dublin City centre on the day of the programme.

A small travel fund would be made available for those participants that require financial assistance

All the materials will be provided on the day.

Place Allocation

There are a total of 15 places for each of the labs. Places will be allocated randomly by a lottery system. Half of the placements will be allocated to students from DEIS schools who will also be chosen randomly.

We will send offers of places by email including your parent/guardian to let them know.

The art-making labs are free but an application is required. If you wish to apply, please see the link at the bottom of this page.
