This collaborative project is informed by the architectural space of the Loos Bar in Trinity’s senior common room. Designed by Irish architect Shane deBlacam in the 1980s after the devastating fire of 1984, the Trinity bar replicates the space of Adolf Loos’ 1908 American Bar in Vienna, and was conceived as an intervention into the conservative British architecture that characterised Trinity up until that point. In exploring the value of historical buildings and the memories, histories and narratives that they extol, Loosin‘ It replays deBlacam’s legacy of radical spatial intervention through digital 3-D images of Trinity’s own Loos Bar. Speculating on the closure of college buildings as a result of the pandemic and the unlived possibilities of the previous year, the postcard format encourages you to create your own memories whilst questioning how an exclusive space might be reinvigorated through creative interventions. By reproducing the modernist architecture contained within, this project envisages Trinity as a shared space of innovation, newness and inclusivity.

Dylan Mundy-Clowry is an architect and urbanist based in Vienna, Austria. As a practitioner of architecture for social inclusion, research-led design and interdisciplinary collaboration underpin his experience in Asia, East-Africa and Europe. His work aims to embedd design-thinking into development practice and to drive the role art, design and performance has to play in creating resilient institutions, communities and cities. Dylan is currently pursuing a Masters in Development Practice at Trinity College Dublin where his current research examines how informal design methods can lead to meaningful processes of Homing and Belonging in social Housing

Ross Fraser-Smith recently graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, with a M.Phil in Identities and Cultures of Europe. He is a writer interested in the interrelation of memory, culture and identity, and the processes of identity formation in the public sphere through the mediums of literature and visual art. Recently, he has been researching the Gallery of Photography, Ireland’s archive, looking specifically at the contested history of the Irish border through photographic representations.
