As part of Student Forum III, and to coincide with Culture Night 2021, I have created When I Woke Up This Morning (2021), a free print, mounted artwork, and online video, for the Douglas Hyde Gallery.

When I Woke Up This Morning is inspired by the works of a range of artists including Claude Monet, Félix González-Torres, Roni Horn and Agnes Martin.

The work was designed to minimise barriers to accessibility and as a result it can be experienced online, in a gallery space, or carried home as a physical object.

Henry Martin is a Tipperary writer. His books include Agnes Martin: Pioneer, Painter, Icon and Yappo (with artist Iro Tsavala). Henry has lectured at Camberwell College of Art, NCAD, Edinburgh University, and CityLit, and he is a 2022 Fulbright-Creative Ireland Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution. His plays have been performed at Theatre 503, Project Arts Centre, Belltable and Lime Tree Theatre. Henry has written for Hyperallergic, Irish Times, Home Cultures, and interviewed artists ranging from René Burri to Adrian Piper. Henry is a contributor to Phaidon’s Great Women Artists, and has received numerous awards including Tipperary Artists Award (2017, 2021), NCAD scholarship, Tavolozza Foundation Scholarship and Benjamin Franklin Award.
