Valérie Blass & Cynthia Girard-Renard
Artists In Conversation
The Douglas Hyde Gallery is very pleased to announce the opening of solo exhibitions by Montreal-based artists Valérie Blass and Cynthia Girard-Renard on the evening of Thursday June 20, 2019. At 5.30pm, in advance of the opening reception, the two artists will discuss their work in conversation.
For her first exhibition in Ireland, Valérie Blass brings together a selection of works from recent years. On show in Gallery 1 are twenty pieces, more than half of which are sculptures. The rest are photomontages that depict hybrid human forms in motion. The sculptures too seem poised for movement; on their way somewhere and full of vitality in their gestures and poses.
‘The Artist’s Eye’ series asks those exhibiting in Gallery 1 to invite an artist of significant influence to present work in Gallery 2. In the seventh instalment in this series, Cynthia Girard-Renard has been invited by Valérie Blass. Working across painting, performance, poetry and sculpture, Girard-Renard presents a theatrical and flamboyant world where the sensual and the political entwine.
Both exhibitions continue until Saturday September 7, 2019.
