Pınar Öğrenci
Film Screening & Artist Talk
Listen back now to our Artist Talk that took place on Tuesday 11 February: a conversation between artist Pınar Öğrenci and Dr Georgina Jackson.
Öğrenci’s film Âşit was presented in the gallery in Episode 1 of our screening programme for the exhibition Land in late 2024. In making this work, Öğrenci returned to her father’s hometown, Müküs, on Turkey’s border with Iran. Aşît means avalanche and disaster in Kurdish, refering both to the threat of avalanche that disconnects Müküs from the rest of the world and to ‘Meds Yeghern’ (The Big Disaster) in 1915, when 1.5 million Armenians were deported, killed, or forced to leave Anatolia.
