Writing Workshop

Led by the Student Forum

Thursday 4 September, 6.30pm

Join our 2025 Student Forum for a workshop exploring Mohammed Sami’s exhibition To Whom it May Concern, through writing and slow looking.

Sami’s paintings often evoke the blurred terrain of memory, sensation, and lived experience. In this session, participants will spend extended time with select works from the exhibition and experiment with different forms of writing as a way of responding. Participants will be guided through a tour of the exhibition, followed by a discussion on writing techniques utilised when writing about an artwork. These modes draw on ideas of episodic memory and the literary tradition of ekphrasis. The workshop invites you to reflect on how artworks allow us to connect with our own histories, emotions and ways of seeing.

No prior writing experience is required. This event is open to any and all interested in using writing as a mode and method in their art engagement. The emphasis will be on curiosity, attention, and subjective encounter. Together we’ll consider how looking and writing can open up new ways of engaging with contemporary art.
