Niamh Seana Meehan

Response Series

As part of our ongoing Response Series, The Douglas Hyde presents a new audio piece, available for the duration of the exhibition, by artist Niamh Seana Meehan, in response to Yuyan Wang’s exhibition #16161D.

keeper of light serves as an auditory embrace of the visual narratives woven in Yuyan Wang’s exhibition. With a reverence for the fleeting moments captured within her artworks, Wang describes herself as a caretaker of these ephemeral clips, eternally engaged in the delicate dance of editing.

In this sonic exploration, keeper of light seeks to embody that profound act of collection, weaving together field recordings, the deep lulls of the ocean, quickened breaths, and rhythmic sways. It draws inspiration from the way light flows through Wang’s artworks. The narrative invokes memories of time spent near, with, or within the embrace of water’s depths.

Concentrating on the journey of light through each artwork—how it gently enters, meanders, lingers, hesitates, and ultimately shines—keeper of light invites you to drift, to immerse yourself in the sun glitter, and to float within the ephemeral shimmering moment.
